FIA and ACO extend FIA WEC contract until 2037

The World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) is currently a huge success. In the Hypercar class, 17 cars from eight manufacturers are battling it out for the overall title. And that’s not all: two more manufacturers will be joining the series in the 2027 season. The series is a joint production between the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) and the Le Mans organiser, the ACO (Automobile Club de l’Ouest). The World Championship has been run in this format since the 2012 season. A previous World Endurance Championship ran until 1992.

Both organisations have now announced that a new contractual framework has been established to run the FIA WEC until 2037. The new contract is set to come into force at the end of 2027. Under the new partnership agreement, all regulatory processes will be overseen by FIA working groups and the FIA Endurance Commission, and will require final approval by the FIA World Motor Sport Council.

The FIA and the ACO will jointly oversee the homologation of all Hypercar-class vehicles. The extended partnership will also ensure a significantly stronger presence for the FIA brand. This includes prominent placement of the FIA branding in key areas – such as the Parc Fermé, on the podium and on the safety cars – as well as increased visibility in TV coverage.
