Long-track World Championships final in Marmande via live stream: Erik Riss on course for third title

Erik Riss won both the World Championship events in Scheeßel and Morizes, meaning he heads into the season finale in Marmande with 52 points. With his two victories, the Swabian has built up a comfortable ten-point lead over his closest rivals, Dave Meijerink and Zach Wajtknecht. This puts him in a strong position, as simply reaching the final of the day would secure the World Championship title for him. Only if Riss fails to reach the final would Meijerink and Wajtknecht have a chance of becoming world champions. However, for that to happen, one of the two challengers would also have to win the final on the triangular grass track with its distinctive bends.

If everything goes to plan for Riss in Marmande, the 31-year-old will clinch his third World Championship title, following those in 2014 and 2016, and would draw level with the legendary Ivan Mauger, Egon Müller, Kelvin Tatum and Martin Smolinski in the all-time medal table. Wajtknecht and Meijerink are likely to be battling it out for silver and bronze. Lukas Fienhage could also have a say in the medal race; the North German is just three points behind the pair.

2027 Long-Course World Championships: Format still unclear

As no sporting qualification for next year’s World Championships took place this year, and it is not yet known how the field for next year’s World Championships will be composed, only the top eight from this year’s World Championships can plan with certainty for the 2027 World Championships. Chris Harris and Jesse Mustonen, in fifth and sixth place respectively, should remain in the top eight; behind them, things are set to get exciting, as only eight points separate seventh and twelfth place.

The World Championship action from Marmande is being broadcast on FIM-Moto.tv alongside coverage of the title decider in the Speedway Grand Prix in Toruń, Poland . The event in southern France was originally due to take place in July, but due to the heatwave and an official heat warning, the authorities banned the event, so 26 September was set as the rescheduled date. The race will start on Saturday evening at 8.30 pm.
