Future plans: Rider selection for 2027 at Intact GP in full swing

With Manuel Gonzalez and Senna Agius, the only German GP team has two winning riders under contract for 2026. Gonzalez reigns at the top of the standings, whilst Agius is third in the championship. Consequently, both riders are the subject of speculation – and could potentially be on their way out. It is considered certain that at least one of the two Intact heroes will no longer be available in 2027. The younger rider, Senna Agius, currently holds the better hand. The Aussie is a hot favourite for a place at the French Tech3 team.

Regardless of whether championship leader Gonzalez stays or also pursues a different career path, Intact’s management must have long since begun making concrete plans for 2027. It is no secret that the current Moto3 line-up, featuring David Muñoz and David Almansa, was also selected with an eye to internal promotion. There’s no doubt that both are suited to the step up – but both riders are also struggling with their form and, by 2026, will still have too few race kilometres under their belts to accept a promotion without a second thought.

The list isn’t all that long when it comes to established Moto2 riders. One possibility would be riders whose attempts to move up to MotoGP have failed. As things stand, both Celestino Vietti and Barry Baltus are missing out on promotion to the top tier. Vietti had hoped to make his breakthrough at the Italian Boscoscuro circuit – so far to no avail. The Belgian Barry Baltus earned a great deal of recognition in 2025, finishing third in the World Championship. Yet even Baltus, partly due to an injury, has not yet been able to build on his performances from the previous year.

This is even more true of a veteran of the class who is currently merely a shadow of his former self: Aron Canet. The Spaniard has a fabulous track record – and yet, riding the Marc VDS team’s Boscoscuro, he simply cannot get a foothold. Canet finished a dismal 22nd in England. At 26, Canet is too young to be phased out – and is available. The same applies to Canet’s team-mate Deniz Öncü – but not to the strongest rookies at present. Both Jose Antonio Rueda (KTM Ajo) and Luca Lunetta (SpeedRS) will continue to ride for their current teams in 2027. Race-winner Ivan Ortola is also still being linked with MSI.

KTM Tech3 is still taking its time, but should the expected pairing of Luca Marini and Senna Agius be officially confirmed, Intact team boss Jürgen Lingg is likely to spring into action immediately and present the first Moto2 contract for signature. To whom remains to be seen. But one of the names mentioned is likely to take the opportunity.
