After a serious crash in Aragon: Moto3 rider Buchanan shows his scars

Cormac Buchanan was thrown violently from his KTM during the Moto3 race at Aragon. The 20-year-old suffered a fracture to his right ankle. On the Monday following the Grand Prix, he underwent surgery at Dexeus University Hospital in Barcelona. The New Zealander, who competes for the Boe Motorsports team in the Moto3 World Championship, is now working hard on his recovery.

“Despite this setback, I’m staying positive. I underwent successful ankle surgery with the brilliant Dr David Campillo and his experienced team at Hospital Universitari Dexeus in Barcelona, and now the focus is on making a proper recovery and getting back to doing what I love,” Buchanan posted on his Instagram account. “When you race motorbikes, you have to accept things like this, and I’m ready to work hard to come back stronger. I’m incredibly grateful to my Boe Motorsports family, who have stood by me 100 per cent since the crash in Aragon. And a huge thank you to everyone who’s asked after me, sent me messages and supported me. For now, it’s all about rehab. I’ll keep you all updated. See you back on the track soon!”

Buchanan also posted several photos on social media showing him in hospital with a plaster cast and crutches. There is also a photo of his right foot with two large surgical scars. It is currently unclear when he will be able to get back on his KTM. However, his road to recovery is likely to take some time.
