Moto3 substitute trio at Silverstone: Abruzzo, Singapore and Gonzalez on the grid

Whilst the Moto2 field is competing in England with a full line-up of regular riders, several stand-in riders have been called up in each of the other MotoGP classes. Much to the delight of the fans, legend Cal Crutchlow is standing in for the long-term injury sufferer Johann Zarco at LCR-Honda. Fermin Aldeguer is also still injured. The youngster’s Ducati will be ridden by the promising Iker Lecuona. Furthermore, Maverick Viñales will not be on the grid in England either. Due to uncertainty over Viñales’s physical condition, the RC16 will be ridden by test rider Pol Espargaró.

The Moto3 World Championship has also been hit hard. Two riders broke their hands in the Netherlands and, having missed the Sachsenring round, will also be absent in England. This means rookie Zen Mitani must remain sidelined. The Japanese rider, who is coached by former MotoGP factory rider Nobuatsu Aoki, was not replaced in Germany. For the round in the UK, Thai rider Kiattisak Singhapong will get his first chance in the World Championship with the official Honda Junior Team. The Red Bull rookie recently made a name for himself with a third-place finish at the Sachsenring. The 20-year-old currently sits sixth in the rookie standings.

Code Motorsports (formerly BOE) also had to make changes for the British Grand Prix. Leonardo Abruzzo is now standing in for the injured South African Ruche Moodley in place of Eduardo Gutierrez. Abruzzo is no stranger to the sport. The rider from the Junior World Championship has already made four appearances as a substitute rider in 2025, on both the Moto3 Honda and the KTM. The Italian has not yet scored any points.

David Gonzalez debütiert für Intact GP in der Moto3-WM

Not to be forgotten is debutant David Gonzalez (already the second ‘Gonzalez’ and third ‘David’ in the 2026 line-up at Intact GP). The Spaniard, who has already claimed victory in the Red Bull Rookies Cup in 2026, was selected by Peter Öttl to ride David Munoz’s bike. As recently reported exclusively, the fast Munoz remains a cause for concern at Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP due to health issues.

The reserve riders finished practice on the longest circuits in the GP circuit in 23rd (Singhapong), 24th (Abruzzo) and 26th (Gonzalez) places. The fastest Moto3 rider was David Almansa (Intact GP).
