Bezzecchi had broken his collarbone on 11 July during qualifying for the Sachsenring GP and underwent surgery just one day later. Now, the Italian has got back on a motorbike for the first time. According to Aprilia, the VR46 Academy rider completed four stints on an Aprilia RSV4. The manufacturer reported that the fitness test went satisfactorily.

Bezzecchi will continue his rehabilitation programme over the coming days. Whether he will be able to compete in the British Grand Prix (7–9 August) at Silverstone will be decided following the mandatory fitness check at the circuit.

His return would come at a crucial time for Aprilia. Ahead of the Silverstone round, Bezzecchi sits fourth in the World Championship standings and is just 22 points behind his team-mate and championship leader, Jorge Martin. The battle for the MotoGP title is wide open.
