Officially confirmed: Fabio Quartararo will ride the MotoGP Honda in 2027 and 2028!

Fabio Quartararo is the next big name in MotoGP – the 2021 MotoGP World Champion has been confirmed by Honda as a factory MotoGP rider. The official statement differs in one respect from the announcement regarding Moto2 ace Alonso: “Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) is delighted to announce the signing of Fabio Quartararo for the 2027 and 2028 MotoGP World Championship seasons.”

Whilst the Colombian’s contract is described as being for several years, the 2021 champion’s contract is specified for the years 2027 and 2028. Fabio Quartararo’s signing comes as no surprise. The southern Frenchman’s move had long been on the cards, and not just since the increasingly pronounced sporting lull caused by a complete shake-up in MotoGP ahead of the 2025 season.

What is known is that Honda has long been on the lookout for a victory-hungry rider and hopes to have now found him in the form of ‘El Diablo’. With the 27-year-old, the aim is to return to the top of the premier class as early as 2027. The completely newly developed 850cc Honda will be used. Quartararo’s team-mate – the supposed number one rider – has not yet been confirmed. Either the recently announced David Alonso or Diogo Moreira, currently racing for a customer team and the second-best Honda rider in the standings, will be joining the HRC garage.
