Back in the summer, Fynn Kratochwil’s coach, Dirk Heidolf, was injured during a joint test ride and even had to sit out one of his protégé’s Red Bull Rookies Cup weekends. Now it’s the 16-year-old’s turn. “We’d already been training in the days leading up to the race at Misano,” he explains. “Unfortunately, on Wednesday, I had an accident on a kart track where we’d been practising on the 600cc bike, and I sustained a shoulder injury. The pain was so severe that at first I didn’t know whether I’d be able to ride at all during the race weekend. Nevertheless, I decided to give it a go.”

The final race of the 2026 season took the young rider to the Moto4 European Cup final in Misano, Italy, where he had also been competing this year alongside the Red Bull Rookies Cup. “On Friday, I was still in a lot of pain and couldn’t ride the way I’m used to,” said Kratochwil. “I had to adapt my riding style and try out different techniques to go faster despite the injury.”

Kratochwil has to see the doctor on Monday

He did not manage to qualify directly for the second qualifying session. He only managed it after having to go through Q1. He then started the race from 23rd place. “Despite the pain and the difficult starting position, I gave it my all and managed to fight my way up to P13 during the race,” explains the Thuringian. “I was at the front of the second group and managed to break away from them. Unfortunately, it wasn’t quite enough to catch up with the leading group. Given the circumstances, I’m still very pleased with my performance and proud that I didn’t give up. On Monday, I’ll have my shoulder examined by a doctor so that I can get fit again as soon as possible.”

“This also marks the end of an incredible season,” he concludes. “I’m incredibly grateful to my whole team, all our supporters and everything we’ve achieved together this year. It’s been a year full of experiences, challenges and progress. We’ll keep at it, carry on working hard and come back stronger.”
