Sportbike wildcard moves on: Mizera benefits from two colleagues’ bad luck

It’s a double blow for Evann Plaindoux. The 18-year-old was confirmed two weeks ago as a guest rider for the Sportbike World Championship at Magny-Cours – a spot Plaindoux had earned as champion of the Yamaha R7 Challenge. However, an injury sustained in training has thrown a spanner in the works, meaning another young talent will get the chance instead.

According to the national federation’s regulations, the runner-up would normally benefit, but Arthur Massy had missed the required preparatory test. So the wildcard goes to the third-placed rider, Amaury Mizera. A drop in quality is not to be expected; quite the opposite, in fact.

The 19-year-old missed the first two rounds of the season – that is, four races – and impressed at the remaining events with a winning streak reminiscent of that of Superbike star Nicolò Bulega (Ducati). In five out of six races, the son of Eric Mizera also set the fastest lap of the race.

The guest appearance is being supported by GMT94. Christophe Guyot’s team will prepare a World Championship-spec Yamaha R7 for Mizera.
