During the event, it was announced that Gounon – who has competed in the DTM, amongst other series, over the past two years – and Juncadella – who races as a Genesis works driver in the FIA WEC – would be joining the Austrian drinks manufacturer’s squad of athletes as new Red Bull Athletes.
Both Gounon, a Frenchman living in Andorra, and the Spaniard Juncadella competed this year for the Mercedes-AMG Team Verstappen Racing in the GT World Challenge Europe and at the Nürburgring 24-hour race. When Gounon and Juncadella were unable to compete in the season finale of Europe’s premier GT racing series due to a clash with the FIA WEC calendar, Max Verstappen personally stepped in to replace them in the Mercedes-AMG GT3 at Portimão.
“I am incredibly proud to represent Red Bull as a sportsman! I began my career in formula racing 18 years ago as a Red Bull Junior. I’m absolutely delighted to be back with this fantastic brand!” said Daniel Juncadella.
Jules Gounon added: “Always dream big … you never know how far your dreams can take you. A very special new chapter begins for me this week. I am proud, grateful and really looking forward to becoming part of the Red Bull family as a Red Bull athlete.”
