Exclusive: What lies ahead for Domi Aegerter in the 2027 Supersport World Championship

It has been clear since mid-July that Dominique Aegerter would lose his place in the Kawasaki works team in the Supersport World Championship. It is now confirmed: the Swiss rider will be riding a competitive bike in 2027 as well.

Kawasaki only really hit its stride in the 2026 Supersport World Championship after the summer break, with two tests in Cremona marking a turning point. Jeremy Alcoba stormed onto the podium in each of the six races in the final quarter of the season, winning four of them. In the final stretch, the Spaniard even clinched the World Championship bronze!

Team-mate Dominique Aegerter also improved significantly and secured his only podium finish of the season by coming second in the final race at Jerez de la Frontera. The rider with 27 race wins to his name thus proved that he can still compete at the very top. This marked improvement in performance came at just the right time, as contract negotiations for 2027 entered a critical phase.

Aegerter’s return to Ten Kate is off

For weeks, Kevin Aegerter, who has been managing his brother’s career for many years, had been in talks with Team Ten Kate – together they won the Supersport World Championship in 2021 and 2022. Negotiations were already at an advanced stage when it became clear that the Dutch team would be switching from Yamaha to the Chinese manufacturer QJ Motor for 2027 and forming their new works team. The riders have already been confirmed: alongside the Turkish rider Can Öncü, the Dutchman Zonta van den Goorbergh, who is coming from Moto2, will be riding.

It is now clear where Aegerters is headed: as SPEEDWEEK.com has discovered, he has agreed terms with Simon Buckmaster’s PTR Triumph team and will share the garage there with the talented Briton Joshua Whatley (21).

Triumph with two factory-backed teams and a new Street Triple

As reported by this motorsport portal, Triumph will field two factory-backed teams in the Supersport World Championship in 2027: alongside PTR – who developed the bike and turned it into a winning machine – comes Marc Griffith’s Renegade team. Englishman Tom Booth-Amos will be riding for them; he secured three wins and seven podium finishes for PTR this year. He will take his crew with him to Renegade, whilst the second rider for that team has yet to be confirmed.

Triumph is also upgrading its technical setup for next season: the 798 is a new homologation model of the Street Triple, which was tested for the first time in August by Jorge Navarro on the Aragon circuit with the new Michelin tyres.
