No speed, no points: giving up is not an option for Domi Aegerter (17th)

The situation between Kawasaki team principal Manuel Puccetti and Dominique Aegerter has long since been resolved: the Swiss rider’s one-year contract will not be renewed due to a lack of success. The 35-year-old could return to Ten Kate Yamaha for the 2027 Supersport World Championship, but until a contract is signed, good results will serve as a basis for negotiations.

Following a two-day test in Cremona, Aegerter was confident ahead of the Magny-Cours round that he could finally break back into the top 10 on the ZX-6R. Finishing 14th in Superpole, this seemed well within the realm of possibility, but after 19 gruelling laps, the Kawasaki rider crossed the line in 17th place.

The fact that Magny-Cours is effectively a home race due to its proximity to Switzerland only makes the disappointment all the greater. “Race 1 went quite differently to how we’d imagined. Finishing 17th meant we missed out on the points. That’s very disappointing,” groaned Aegerter. “All I can say is that I’m sorry for the whole team and our sponsors. That goes, of course, for all the fans who travelled to Magny-Cours this weekend as well. I gave it my all throughout the race, but despite my best efforts, my lap times didn’t get any faster.”

It was a bitter blow for Aegerter: with three laps to go, he was overtaken by his team-mate Jeremy Alcoba, who had previously crashed whilst in 7th place on lap 3. The Spaniard took the final point in 15th place, finishing 1.4 seconds ahead of the Rohrbach rider.

Aegerter is puzzled as to why the good feeling he had during the Cremona test didn’t carry over to the Circuit de Nevers. “We’re going through a difficult phase at the moment, but we’re working hard as a team to find a solution that gives me a slightly better feel for the bike. Unfortunately, we haven’t managed that yet, but we won’t give up and will keep working on it,” said the two-time Supersport World Champion, sounding determined. “Saturday is over, but I’m highly motivated to give it my all again on Sunday and turn things around. I hope we can pick up a few points or even finish in the top 10. I believe in our project!”
