The 39th Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix (a World Championship round) takes place at the Red Bull Ring on Sunday. A Styrian Grand Prix was also held on two occasions (in 2020 and 2021 during the Covid-19 pandemic). The first Grand Prix in Zeltweg in 1963 did not count towards the World Championship. It was not often that the winner of this Grand Prix – usually held in midsummer or during the ‘holiday’ season – also went on to become World Champion in the same year.
In total, the winner at Aichfeld went on to become champion in 13 years (including the Styrian Grand Prix). Since racing began at the current Red Bull Ring in 2014, this has happened only five times in 14 races.
