Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin-Honda): “Less power than F2 in Belgium”

Plenty of full-throttle sections, few braking zones: the Formula 1 drivers found it very difficult to manage the energy in their turbo-hybrid power units at Silverstone. Things are likely to be even trickier at the upcoming traditional Belgian Grand Prix.

Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin-Honda) warns: “The Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps circuits guzzle an incredible amount of energy. You can’t release energy on every straight, otherwise you’ll run out of juice. If, at Spa, you use energy from the first corner, La Source, right through to Turn 5 at Les Combes to attack an opponent or fend them off, then that’s it for the rest of the lap – finito.”

“If you use energy on those two straights – which would be the optimal approach – then there’s no energy usage at all for a whole minute in the second sector. So we’ll probably have to save a bit in those sections to still be able to release energy from Turn 14 (Stavelot) to the Bus Stop chicane.”

“Without any additional electrical energy – and we mustn’t forget that – we have significantly less power this year than in 2025, which means less than in Formula 2. Using the energy wisely will be a huge challenge in Belgium.”
