Ferrari row with Hamilton and Leclerc – Timo Glock criticises: Not like that!

Following the entertaining Dutch Grand Prix, Ferrari are licking their wounds: the car was fast enough to secure a podium finish, but Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc both just missed out – fourth place for the Englishman, fifth for the Monegasque.

Lewis Hamilton criticised Ferrari’s strategy after the Zandvoort race: “That was frustrating. I had great pace, but I was on a different strategy with a different tyre. Leclerc was clearly struggling on the medium tyres, and I lost time there. To maximise our points haul as a team, we need to work together better. The decision should have been made earlier. I think that cost us a podium finish.”

“My aim is to lead Ferrari to the World Championship. If you want to win, you have to do things like that (Hamilton is referring to the position swap, M.B.). That’s certainly what the others do. We definitely need to discuss this.”

Charles Leclerc on the radio discussions: “Pah, those are just normal discussions during a race. It might look worse from the outside. When there isn’t much happening on the track, people focus on that discussion. In the end, from my point of view, it wasn’t the right lap to pit. The decision was made differently, and we’ll analyse that together.”

The former German Formula 1 driver watched the action at Zandvoort in person for our colleagues at Sky. Commenting on Ferrari’s approach, he said: “Ferrari provided a textbook example of how not to do things with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. Leclerc held Hamilton up for two or three laps too long. If they’d let Lewis through earlier, they might even have finished ahead of Kimi Antonelli.”
