Ferrari star Charles Leclerc warns: “We were also lucky at Silverstone”

Charles Leclerc had to wait 623 days after his Grand Prix victory at the Circuit of the Americas in the 2024 season before he could once again bask in the glory of standing on the top step of the podium. The Ferrari driver was understandably relieved when he crossed the finish line first at the Silverstone Circuit. And he admitted: the victory came as a surprise, as the British circuit is a track that suits the Mercedes car particularly well, and it has proved to be the clear favourite so far this season.

Now the next showdown is on the cards with the race at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, and the track characteristics of the historic Belgian circuit are similar to those of Silverstone. Does this mean Leclerc is approaching the race with particular confidence? The Monegasque driver says: “Of course, I can’t deny that it feels good to have won again, especially after the previous races where I struggled.”

“But that was just one circuit, and I need to make sure I can repeat this success at other tracks. I’m always confident that good results will follow if I feel comfortable behind the wheel and do a good job. Nevertheless, we were much better at Silverstone than expected. And I know what changes we’ve made to make me feel more comfortable. But we still need to analyse further why we performed so well overall,” the 28-year-old went on to explain.

Leclerc also made it clear: “Nothing has changed in terms of my position. Even before the race at Silverstone, we knew that these are tracks that suit Mercedes’ strengths very well. And we mustn’t forget: we were also lucky at Silverstone, because Kimi Antonelli was, as expected, very strong before his retirement. We’ll have to see what we can do.”
