Formula 1 World Champion Lando Norris: A central role in the McLaren team

Lando Norris and his McLaren team share a success story that has been unfolding for many years. And today, the Woking-based team has confirmed that the Briton will continue to race in Formula 1 for the next four years in the papaya colours of this historic team. The 26-year-old has already made more Grand Prix starts for the British team than any other McLaren driver, and last year achieved his major goal of winning the World Championship.

The team management is understandably delighted that he is staying on – though it is not just his work on the track that is valued, as Andrea Stella emphasises: “Lando has been an integral part of McLaren’s development and success for nine years, and we are delighted to continue our partnership with him until at least 2030. He is an exceptional driver who combines exceptional pace with maturity, consistency and great commitment to McLaren, but above all he is a special person who is valued by everyone in the team.”

“Since joining McLaren through our junior programme, he has grown with us and played a central role in bringing the team back to the top of Formula 1,” the team principal is certain. “This contract extension ensures continuity and strengthens our confidence in the path we are taking together. With him and Oscar Piastri, we know that we can count not only on one of the strongest driver line-ups, but also on a team that sticks together like no other,” he adds proudly.

McLaren CEO Zak Brown is also delighted to see the 13-time Grand Prix winner continuing to compete in one of the Papaya-liveried cars in the future: “I am absolutely delighted to sign a new contract with Lando, which extends his commitment to McLaren until at least 2030. His development within the team is a fantastic example of how good we are at discovering, nurturing and supporting world-class talent, and his successes speak for themselves.”

“Together with Andrea, Oscar and the whole team, Lando has helped lead McLaren into a new era of success – from the back of the grid to two consecutive Constructors’ Championships in 2024 and 2025, as well as our first Drivers’ Championship in 17 years last season. Norris joined the McLaren junior programme in 2017 and was initially groomed for his Formula 1 debut. Since 2019, he has been one of the two regular drivers for the team, founded in 1963, for whom he secured the 13th Drivers’ World Championship title last season. He most recently prevailed over the competition at the recent Zandvoort Grand Prix, celebrating the 13th Grand Prix victory of his career. The defending champion currently sits fourth in the provisional World Championship standings.
