Isack Hadjar: Back in P3 from Monaco, but participation in the Madrid GP in jeopardy

On this Friday of free practice in Italy, Isack Hadjar didn’t know whether to be pleased or annoyed. For him, the glass is half full – on 4 September, the FIA Court of Appeal reinstated his place in the Monaco Grand Prix (at the expense of Alpine driver Pierre Gasly).

On the ‘glass half empty’ side, it’s worth noting that the 21-year-old Frenchman will have to sit out the Zandvoort Grand Prix and the Monza race because his broken wrist apparently requires further time to heal. There is a high risk that he will also be unable to race in Madrid the week after Monza. Red Bull Racing team principal Laurent Mekies confirmed this in the Royal Park at Monza.

Speaking on Canal+ on the evening of 4 September, Mekies said: “We’re taking absolutely no risks here. Racing this weekend was never on the cards, and I won’t lie – Isack isn’t exactly thrilled about it.”

“But a full recovery simply takes priority, and we’re not going to put that at risk. We’re listening to the doctors and giving Hadjar the time he needs. As for Madrid – that’s just a few days after Monza, and it’s going to be quite tricky. We’ll reassess the situation in a few days’ time, but I think it’s a bit of a stretch to name Madrid as a target.”

“Our priority is that Isack gets back in the car fully recovered, that his participation is entirely justifiable and doesn’t potentially jeopardise his future.”
