Good news at Red Bull Racing: Isack Hadjar is returning to Baku!

It’s now official: Isack Hadjar is back! His team, Red Bull Racing, announced this good news on Tuesday morning ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. After a three-race enforced break, Hadjar is therefore returning to his cockpit at Red Bull Racing!

Hadjar injured his wrist during training in the summer break. He missed the Grands Prix at Zandvoort (Netherlands), Monza (Italy) and Madrid (Spain). Liam Lawson stood in for him on each occasion and is now returning to his regular team, the sister team Racing Bulls.

Hadjar is fit again!

The official team statement reads: “We’re delighted to have Isack back with us this weekend. Having successfully recovered from his wrist injury, he’ll be back in action at the Baku City Circuit from Thursday.”

Red Bull Racing team principal Laurent Mekies had outlined following the Madrid race that Hadjar would be testing in the simulator at Milton Keynes and would also be carrying out further stress tests. The engineer had stated clearly: “If he feels close to 100 per cent, then he’ll race. And if we feel that his recovery isn’t yet complete, we’ll stick to our approach of prioritising his recovery.” Caution was therefore the priority – but Hadjar is fit enough, according to the assessment at the start of the race weekend.

First outing as early as Thursday

The decision was announced on the day of travel to Baku. Because, exceptionally, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix takes place on Saturday, everything this week is a day earlier than usual. This means that most F1 staff are travelling to Baku on Tuesday instead of Wednesday as usual. Media Day is already on Wednesday, with practice on Thursday and so on. His FP1 session is therefore already on Thursday morning.

A comeback on the Baku circuit is no mean feat: the track is demanding, with many tricky corners, particularly in the Old Town section. And it doesn’t get any easier after that: for young drivers like Hadjar, the return of Formula 1 to Malaysia (for the Bahrain Grand Prix) is a challenge, as the circuit is new to them. And after that, Singapore awaits – arguably the most gruelling race of the season. Hadjar therefore has a big task ahead of him.
