The fast Mercedes driver, who leads the World Championship by 25 points ahead of his team-mate George Russell, secured pole position with an impressive lap on the historic Belgian circuit.
Max Verstappen was more than three tenths of a second slower than the Mercedes hopeful on his fastest qualifying lap. The Red Bull Racing star and three-time Belgian Grand Prix winner will start from the front row alongside the pole-setter from Bologna.
