Mick Schumacher: IndyCar best result on an unusual race day

A huge success for former Formula 1 driver Mick Schumacher! On Monday (!) in Nashville, the German racing driver secured his first top-10 finish since joining the IndyCar Series. The son of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher finished eighth, having fought his way up the field by many places.

Mick Schumacher secures his first top-10 finish

At the Nashville Superspeedway – one of the challenging oval circuits that are completely new to Mick Schumacher – the rookie achieved his best-ever result. It is by far his best result to date in the IndyCar Series. Prior to this, the rookie had not managed to finish higher than 16th (three races earlier in Madison, Illinois).

What made Mick Schumacher’s top-10 finish special was that, unusually, the event did not take place on Sunday but was rescheduled for Monday. On Sunday evening – when the oval race had originally been scheduled – there had been heavy rain and thunderstorms. As a result, the event was postponed and took place a day later, in the afternoon. An afternoon race? Does Mick Schumacher perhaps simply find this more to his liking, harking back to his old Formula 1 days? The Indy race actually started at the usual F1 start time of 3 pm (local time).

Mick Schumacher didn’t let several yellow flag periods caused by accidents rattle him. He had started the race from 16th on the grid and worked his way up the field diligently. Finishing 8th, he picked up a further 24 points in the overall standings. He now sits in 24th place out of a total of 33 drivers.

Mick Schumacher successfully progressed through the Formula 1 junior series, Formula 2 and Formula 3, winning the title in each. He completed two seasons in Formula 1 for Haas in 2021 and 2022. For the 2026 season, he will move to the US to join the Indy team Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.
