Ralf Schumacher: Serious jet ski crash on Stefan Raab’s TV show

It was meant to be a fun evening at a light-hearted competition, but for Ralf Schumacher, taking part in Stefan Raab’s ‘Jetski Star World Championship’ has had consequences. Together with the German TV star, he took part in the Team Challenge on the TV show broadcast on RTL, and the pair ended up in the water. Whilst trying to right the capsized jet ski in the water, disaster struck: the former Formula One driver dislocated his right shoulder.

Shortly afterwards, Schumacher spoke out and explained: “The doctor put it back in place.” And he admitted: “It really hurts.” However, during a subsequent check-up at hospital, it transpired that the injury was more serious than initially thought, as the 51-year-old revealed the following morning.

“It was just a shoulder dislocation, but unfortunately a piece of bone has broken off,” Schumacher reported. As a result, he now faces a “minor operation”. The ‘Sky’ pundit will nevertheless be present at the next Formula 1 race. “The operation will be over quickly, and I should be back on site at Monza. I’ll just have to hold my microphone with my left hand,” he explained bravely.

Schumacher also made a point of thanking the first-aiders at the scene. “Many thanks to the team on site who put my shoulder back in place and pulled me out of the water. It happened in a flash.” He also thanked the doctors who examined him at the BG Klinikum Duisburg for their efforts. He had an X-ray there on Saturday night and an MRI scan on Sunday morning.

The six-time GP winner doesn’t blame the organisers for the injury – quite the opposite. He explained: “Many thanks again to Stefan Raab and all the participants; it was a brilliant event and it was really great fun. How on earth you can dislocate your shoulder whilst pulling yourself out and turning round on a jet ski – you’ve got to try that first. But maybe I’m just too old for this sort of nonsense. All I can say is that the organiser isn’t to blame at all, and if there’s another edition, I’ll of course be back.” He also apologised to Raab for missing out on victory in the team competition and said: “We’ll do better next time.”
