Red Bull Racing brings in reinforcements from Aston Martin: Tom McCullough is joining!

The Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team is bringing in new support from the 2027 season onwards! On Tuesday evening, ahead of the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, the Austrian team announced: “Tom McCullough is joining Oracle Red Bull Racing as the future Head of Racing.” The Briton joins from Aston Martin.

The statement went on to say: “We are delighted to welcome Tom to the team in early 2027 and look forward to the wealth of experience and expertise he will bring to this role.” No further details regarding the start date of the contract or the role itself had been announced at that stage. However, this high-profile appointment is likely to be a talking point at the upcoming race weekend in Monza.

McCullough, a 50-year-old British engineer, brings many years of Formula 1 experience to the team. McCullough spent more than a decade at Aston Martin (and its predecessor organisations, Force India and Racing Point). Prior to that, he worked at Williams and, for a short time, at Sauber.

Back on the track

When the senior management at Aston Martin was restructured in early 2025 – with, amongst other changes, Mike Krack moving from Team Principal to Chief Trackside Officer and Andy Cowell becoming Team Principal – this also altered Tom McCullough’s role: He was withdrawn from the Formula 1 team and assigned to the headquarters in Silverstone. His official title in recent years at Aston Martin has been Team Performance Director. From 2027, McCullough will now be returning to the racetrack.

With McCullough’s arrival from next season, Gianpiero Lambiase’s successor has now been confirmed. The Briton is currently Max Verstappen’s race engineer and also Head of Race Engineering at Red Bull Racing. However, Lambiase is leaving the team to join McLaren by 2028. McCullough is therefore expected to take over Lambiase’s senior roles.
