Verstappen’s team-mate Hadjar: What happens next following his wrist injury

21-year-old Parisian Isack Hadjar was merely a spectator at the traditional Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort: he had sustained a wrist injury during pit stop practice. New Zealander Liam Lawson stepped in as Max Verstappen’s team-mate and finished in 7th place.

Red Bull Racing team principal Laurent Mekies expressed optimism at the North Sea circuit that Hadjar would be able to race again at Monza. “That’s the plan at the moment.” A thorough examination will take place on Wednesday.

In a Red Bull video, Hadjar, who is currently eighth in the World Championship, said: “This is the first injury I’ve ever had in my whole life, in my career. It’s really strange to be sitting on the sidelines, and I’m not happy about it – neither for myself nor for the team. Of course, I want to be out there for every lap.”

“The joint isn’t swollen, which is very good. That’s a good sign. And it’s healing quickly. I can feel myself becoming a bit more mobile every day; I’m confident about Monza.”

Plan B for Red Bull: Should Hadjar, contrary to expectations, be unable to drive, Lawson will take the wheel once again, and Yuki Tsunoda will replace Liam at Racing Bulls.
