World champion Lando Norris patronised: McLaren star speaks out

One of the oddities of the first Madrid Grand Prix was a curious scene in the so-called ‘cool-down room’ – the room where drivers take a breather before the podium ceremony, have a drink and are shown some highlights from the race.

After the Spanish Grand Prix, McLaren star Lando Norris entered the room carrying a can of Coca-Cola. This apparently prompted an objection from an official, as Formula 1 does not partner with the Coca-Cola Company, but with its arch-rival Pepsico.

Lando Norris, incredulous: “Am I being told off here?” The Englishman, who’d finished third, then added: “I’ve just driven a race, so I’ll drink whatever I like – thanks a lot.”

The footage in question spread like wildfire across social media, and the reaction from most fans was clear: Lando Norris received almost universal support from Formula 1 supporters.

The officials’ reprimand backfired.
