Jeffrey Buis is paying dearly for his Euro Moto appearance – No World Championship start

The Dutchman is, of course, very familiar with Assen. What’s more, the summer break in the Sportbike World Championship lasted a few weeks again. So why not get in the mood for the rest of the World Championship season in mid-August with a guest appearance at the Euro Moto Sportbike event on the TT Circuit? The World Championship gets back underway today with the season’s final sprint at the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours. However, Jeffrey Buis will not be taking part, as he failed his medical check on Thursday and the race doctor declared him unfit, thereby throwing a massive spanner in the works of his World Championship plans.

In the first Euro Moto race at Assen, Buis – who has also competed in the IDM in the past – had made a big impression. He had to start from the very back of the grid, but got off to the start of his life and had already fought his way through the entire field by the end of the first lap. A second-place finish behind his compatriot Ruben Bijman was his well-deserved reward. Race 2 was also going well, but Jakob Rosenthaler’s crash in front of him brought Buis’s guest appearance to an early end. The Suzuki rider was unable to avoid Rosenthaler’s Triumph, which was spinning in front of him, and had to ride over the bike. In the resulting crash, he landed on his shoulder. After a visit to hospital, his team had remained optimistic, saying: “Everything seems to be fine.” But appearances were deceiving; the injury was worse than expected.

A disaster for Buis’s World Championship hopes

Jeffrey Buis (Track & Trades Wixx Racing) and his Suzuki GSX-8R are currently 57 points behind championship leader David Salvador in the World Championship standings, and although his title hopes are likely to be modest, they would get back on track if he managed to return to the podium. This is something he has achieved particularly well at Magny-Cours in the WorldSSP300, including six podium finishes, four of which were wins. However, following the medical check-up, that is no longer on the cards and Buis is left with nothing but the role of a spectator. Just eight points behind him is Matteo Vannucci (Revo-M2), who looks similarly strong on his day and has demonstrated the pace of the Aprilia RS 660 Factory with his victory and two podium finishes in 2026.

Following Jeffrey Buis being declared unfit to ride on Thursday, Spanish rider Marc Vich will take his place on the Track & Trades Wixx Racing bike.
