Euro Moto Assen: Friday’s schedule

It’s scorching out there. At least on Friday, before temperatures plummet from well over 30 degrees to the 20-degree range by Sunday at the latest. So getting the motorbikes set up just right is unlikely to be plain sailing. To add a bit of spice, rain showers are forecast for Saturday. So the stage is already set for an exciting show.

Plenty of space

There’s plenty of space at the TT Circuit. For the Solo motorbikes, 49 machines are allowed on the track in practice, and 44 in the race. Mathematically speaking, this means all three Euro Moto Solo classes could take to the track together, and there would still be room for two more riders – at least in practice.

The schedule

The start and finish lines are identical on the MotoGP circuit. You can turn back into the pits on the right-hand side after Turn 15. If you receive a long-lap penalty, you must serve it on the long straight at Turn 3. Spectators keen to watch practice starts should focus their attention on the right-hand side at Turn 5. The official podium in the pit lane, where plenty of celebrities have collected their trophies in the past, is not used by Euro Moto. The podium is set up in the paddock next to the technical scrutineering area.

The distances

The Euro Moto Superbike class must cover 68.325 km per race, completing 15 laps. The Euro Moto Supersport class races for 13 laps, covering a distance of 59.215 km. Ten laps, covering 45.550 km, are on the programme for the Euro Moto Sportbike, the ADAC Junior Cup and the Kawasaki ZX-4RR Cup. The Pro Superstock 1000 Cup runs 12 laps per race, covering a distance of 54.660 km.

The live stream

As always, there is no live stream on Fridays. However, you don’t have to miss out on footage from Assen entirely. On the TT Circuit website, you’ll find excellently positioned webcams that you can select yourself from around the circuit, depending on your preference. Otherwise, as always, there’s the live timing provided by Bike Promotion, which is free to view, plus the official results featuring sector times, top speed and lap-by-lap lists.

The weather

The Dutch Meteorological Service has issued a weather warning for the district of Drenthe, centred on Assen, due to persistent heat with perceived temperatures of up to 39 degrees. For the time being, the warning applies only to Friday. In Assen, light cloud will form in the morning and the temperature will be 16°C. Furthermore, the sun will shine from midday through to the evening, with temperatures ranging from 21 to 35°C. Overnight, it will be partly cloudy with minimum temperatures of 16°C. Gusts may reach speeds of between 18 and 32 km/h. (Source: wetter.com)
