Euro Moto News: Museum-worthy, last-minute chance, tough BSB and Schleiz party

The former champions are racing in the BSB and the Supersport World Championship. A Swiss rider is putting his bike in a museum, and you can already mark the first date for 2027 in your diary.

An old acquaintance

For several years now, the Yamaha GMT94 team has been committed to promoting French talent, offering the best Yamaha rider in the national Supersport series a wildcard entry for the home race at Magny-Cours. The federation and the importer support this successful initiative. Rarely has a rider deserved this opportunity as much as Mathieu Gines has this year, although he is not one of France’s up-and-coming hopefuls. The 37-year-old has already been confirmed as the French Supersport Champion and has won all but one of the races. This is not his first title: Gines won the Supersport category for the first time in 2009, as well as in 2013 and 2026. The Frenchman won the national Superbike Championship three years running from 2019 to 2021. Gines has also made a name for himself in the IDM and the World Endurance Championship. GMT94 will prepare a third Yamaha R9 in World Championship specification for Gines at the Supersport meeting at the Circuit de Nevers.

Tough going in the BSB

Four-time IDM Superbike champion Ilya Mikhalchik moved to the British Championship last year, where he clinched the title straight away in the Superstock class. This year, he is competing in the BSB Superbike category on a BMW. Having recently been on an upward trajectory, he suffered a setback at Thruxton. “Well, I’d say it was one of the toughest race weekends of my career,” he remarked afterwards. “It started with a pretty good feeling – at least on fresh tyres – but then there were technical problems in qualifying, in Race 1, a bit in Race 2 and also in Race 3. That was really frustrating, because I had enough pace to fight for a place in the top 10 in the sprint race, and a decent pace to battle for good points in the long races. I’d just like to say a huge thank you to the team, who worked so quickly and professionally to sort out all the issues, but this time the machinery threw a spanner in the works – perhaps to make us stronger. Race 1 – DNF, Race 2 – P12, but a 2-second penalty (P13), Race 3 – DNF.”

Save the date

The organisers of the German Endurance Cup (DLC) are already starting to drum up support for the 2027 season opener. “Save the date,” they write. “For the DMV 1000-kilometre race at Hockenheim. The date is set. Holy Saturday, 27 March 2027 at the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg (IDM circuit).”

Worthy of a museum

“Today was a very special day for us,” explained sidecar rider Markus Schlosser from Switzerland. “We handed over our two-stroke sidecar at the legendary Schleizer Dreieck at Motorsport Welt Schleiz. We’re absolutely delighted to be able to make our sidecar available for the exhibition. For us, it’s really something special to see the bike on display there – in a place where so much motorsport history is at home and is still very much alive. It’s a really great initiative by Motorsport Welt Schleiz and a wonderful opportunity to bring a piece of two-stroke and sidecar history to life for visitors. Racing in Schleiz

After a year’s break, the International ADAC Supermoto Championship is returning to the Schleizer Dreieck. Even though the 2026 season is different from previous years – notably without the former IDM, now known as Euro Moto – the calendar of events still has a highlight in store for fans and riders in the form of the Super-Moto IDM. The MSC Schleizer Dreieck is organising the event with the support of the ADAC and has introduced a few new features compared to the last edition two years ago. This year, there will be a grandstand right next to the track, at the transition from the tarmac to the off-road section, as well as a refreshment stand in the immediate vicinity. The supporting programme on Saturday evening also promises plenty of variety – with music, drinks and food, spectators, volunteers and participants can round off the evening right next to the track. The Supermoto track at the Schleizer Dreieck centres on the start-finish area and the IDM pit lane. A dedicated off-road section has been created for the IDSM, offering riders additional challenges. There will be seven different classes, and all classes will contest two races. The action gets underway as early as Friday lunchtime, 11 September, with the free practice sessions, before the qualifying sessions and then the first races are on the programme on Saturday. Visitors will have the opportunity to camp in the immediate vicinity of the track. At the same time, MSC Schleizer Dreieck, in collaboration with the ADAC, is also hosting the ADAC MX Academy.Tickets, the timetable and information about the ADAC MX Academy are available directly from the organiser.
