Alonso after the Silverstone disaster: “We’ve learnt our lessons from it!”

Following a second-place finish in Brno and victory at Assen, Moto2 ace David Alonso endured two disappointing race weekends. He crashed during the Grand Prix at the Sachsenring and could only manage 21st place at Silverstone. Alonso struggled to find the right feel for his Kalex whilst on British soil.

Two races with zero points also took their toll on the overall standings. Alonso currently lies in sixth place with 116 points. He trails championship leader Manuel Gonzalez (Intact GP) by 81.5 points with ten races remaining. Given Gonzalez’s impressive consistency, it will be difficult for Alonso to move up to MotoGP as the 2027 Moto2 World Champion. Second place is within reach – the Aspar rider is just 39 points behind Izan Guevara, who is currently second.

During the break of just under three weeks between Silverstone and Aragon, Alonso had time to train and regroup. “We’re arriving in Aragon well prepared and are ready to go on the attack right from the first lap,” said Alonso combatively. “The weekend at Silverstone was a difficult one for us, but we’ve learnt our lessons from situations like that. Our aim is to establish a good foundation and work on the set-up so that we don’t overcomplicate things unnecessarily and can be competitive again.”

The MotorLand Aragon circuit is one of the few where David Alonso has yet to secure a podium finish – even in the 2024 season, when the Colombian became Moto3 World Champion, he failed to achieve a top-three result at Aragon. In 2025, his rookie year in Moto2, he didn’t see the chequered flag.
