Since the start of this year, responsibility for organising the Sidecar World Championship has once again fallen to the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM). Thanks in no small part to the initiative of the two sidecar insiders, Michael Breitenbach and Eckart Rösinger, and their organisation Sidecar Partner, the revamp of the three-wheeler series can be considered a success. By reducing entry fees, the aim of having significantly more teams on the starting grid has been achieved.
As SPEEDWEEK.com reported exclusively, another plan – namely to host an event in the UK – will be realised next year. In mid-May, the British Motorcycle Racing Club – informally known as Bemsee – will organise a race at Donington. As a round of the British Sidecar Championship will also take place on the same circuit afterwards, it is hoped that there will be keen interest from British teams in taking part.
According to the provisional calendar, the 2027 season will kick off as early as the end of March with two rounds at Le Mans, though no longer as part of the World Endurance Championship, but rather as part of the French Championship. In early May, the teams will then head to the former Grand Prix circuit at Grobnik/Rijeka before moving on to Donington. Dates have also already been confirmed for Schleiz, Assen and the final round in Oschersleben. The only decision still to be made is whether the race will take place at Spa-Francorchamps or in Cremona.
