Alonso: “I want to bid farewell to Moto2 with some great results”

On 21 July, HRC announced the signing of Moto2 star David Alonso for the 2027 MotoGP season. Although it is not yet clear which team he will ride for – Honda HRC Castrol or LCR Honda – the 20-year-old is set to see a dream come true with his promotion to the premier class next season.

For now, however, Alonso’s priority is to keep his focus on the 2026 Moto2 season. Following his crash in the race at the Sachsenring, the Aspar rider is determined to be back in contention for top positions at Silverstone after the summer break. The omens are good – last year, he secured his first podium finish in the middleweight class of the World Motorcycle Championship at the British circuit.

“I’ll try to bid farewell to the Moto2 class with some great results before I take the leap that every rider dreams of,” says the Colombian, already looking ahead to 2027. “I’ve still got eleven races ahead of me with the Aspar team, in which I’ll give it my all, enjoy them and get the best out of myself. Now the second half of the season is beginning, and we’ll try to put everything we’ve learnt so far into practice. We need to make the most of every lap, as it’s a very long track and we won’t be able to complete many laps. We have to give it our all and always stay close to our maximum potential.”

David Alonso currently lies fourth in the overall standings with 116 points. He is one point ahead of his team-mate Daniel Holgado, who will also be moving up to MotoGP in 2027.
