Alex Márquez on his move to KTM: “I believe in the project!”

Motorsport took centre stage on Monday evening during the live programme “Sport und Talk aus dem Hangar-7” on ServusTV. Among the high-profile guests were Formula 1 experts Hans-Joachim Stuck and Patrick Friesacher, as well as MotoGP stars Alex Márquez (Gresini Ducati) and Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM). KTM’s head of racing, Pit Beirer, was also in attendance.

Speaking about his future at KTM and his decision to join the Orange team, Marquez said: “It was relatively clear when I had my first conversation with Pit. They were very determined to have me on board. It was a very good moment in my career to be back in a factory team.”

The two-time world champion (Moto3 and Moto2) appreciates the determination behind KTM’s MotoGP project: “They want the title and I believe in the project. I also believe they’re the right people. There’ll be new bikes in 2027, a new concept and new people. I’ll give it my all to help make that happen.”

Commenting on the ongoing MotoGP World Championship battle, Alex Márquez pointed out: “Everyone’s talking about Jorge Martín and Marc, but Pedro’s racked up plenty of points too. He’s really good in the race and he plays the game really well.”

The horrific crash in Barcelona in mid-May was also a topic of discussion at Hangar-7. At the time, Alex was involved in a serious rear-end collision. The runner-up in the World Championship lost his title hopes due to the resulting injury lay-off: “I’m still recovering from it; it really wasn’t easy. It happened at a critical moment – I’d won at Jerez just before that. Everything was going really well.”

“Later on, I came back and was able to perform a little better every day,” Alex Márquez continued. “I then made fewer mistakes with every race. Being back on the podium for the first time on Sunday after the crash – that was really important to me! I hope I can secure at least one more win this season. I definitely want to try and keep learning.”
