Alex Marquez (Ducati) on his brother: “Marc was playing games a bit!”

Alex Márquez, the future Red Bull KTM works rider, was flown to Salzburg on Monday to appear on the TV programme “Sport und Talk aus dem Hangar-7” on ServusTV. The 30-year-old Spaniard finished Sunday’s Grand Prix at Misano in second place behind his brother Marc. This time, however, the focus was primarily on Spielberg.

For AM73, Spielberg hasn’t been a particularly successful venue so far: “In 2025, I finished second in the sprint at Spielberg. Then I got a long-lap penalty; it was a difficult race. This year, we have several options to move up the field there. I’ll give it my all and I also think we’re in good form.”

“I think Marc is incredibly fast at the Red Bull Ring. He’s very strong on the brakes and when turning into the corners,” Alex continued. “The key is that you can’t afford to make any mistakes on this track. You always have to maintain the pace; you can’t lose any time, not even a tenth. There are, of course, a few questions I could ask Marc. But I’d say it’s mainly consistency that makes the difference.”

Tribute to Marco Simoncelli

Speaking about the Grand Prix at Misano, Alex Márquez said: “It was a brilliant Sunday. I had to start from 9th on the grid; we didn’t do well on Saturday. We thought for Sunday that perhaps 4th, 5th or 6th might be possible. Then the pace was really good and suddenly I was right up there. It was then very special to do it for Marco Simoncelli. It was a special weekend. The Gresini base is, after all, really very close to the circuit.” As a reminder: Alex and his team-mate Fermin Aldeguer were racing in Marco Simoncelli’s colours at Misano on Sunday.

Would an attack on his brother Marc have been possible at Misano? “If you have a plan and then change it, it’s worse. Starting from ninth place, it wasn’t an option. Suddenly I got into the flow, but then I was actually right up there. The race was seven seconds faster this year. It’s not easy to overtake at that sort of pace. He had an extra tenth up his sleeve. He was playing it a bit – every time I opened the throttle, he’d pick up the pace again too. But it was brilliant to secure a one-two finish.”
