Bezzecchi (Aprilia) is in pain: “Perhaps not the best pain management”

Marco Bezzecchi is one of the title contenders in the 2026 MotoGP season. Following his two third-place finishes at Silverstone, the Aprilia rider is currently second in the overall standings. He is currently 31 points behind his team-mate Jorge Martin.

However, since his heavy crash at the Sachsenring, Bezzecchi has been struggling with physical limitations and pain. As a reminder, he broke his left collarbone in Germany. The fracture healed well during the summer break in July and after the British Grand Prix. What is causing Bezzecchi more trouble, however, is his left knee, which severely hampered him at Silverstone too.

“Silverstone was good, but it was also very tough for me there. After the race weekend, I had problems with my knee. As for my shoulder, I can’t complain. The healing process is going very well – though not quite as I’d like, of course,” smiled the Italian. “But my left knee is giving me a hard time. Unfortunately, it’s taking a very long time for this injury to heal. Racing with it isn’t perhaps the best way to manage the pain, but I’ve done everything I can to be here at Silverstone and also here in Aragon – it’ll be tough again, but I’ll give it my best shot.”

Good results in Aragon would give “Bez” an extra boost ahead of his home Grand Prix in Misano, which takes place in September. “Aragon is a circuit I like. But Marc will be very fast here, as will the other Ducati riders. I’ll try to hang in there and get the most out of it,” assured Bezzecchi. Does he have a way of beating Marc Marquez on his home turf? “At the end of the day, Marc is fast everywhere, but especially here. The best I can do is focus on myself and ride as well as I possibly can. At the moment, though, I’m in a different situation compared to the others. I’m focusing on myself.”

Bezzecchi: “I’m struggling, but that’s just how it is”

One rider who is also currently battling an injury is his Aprilia team-mate Ai Ogura. The Japanese rider injured his left thumb whilst training on a motocross track back home – the Trackhouse rider will have to sit out the Aragon GP. “Ai is doing a very good job. We riders all know what he’s going through at the moment. It’s very tough when you’re injured. I wish him a speedy recovery, and I hope he’ll be back soon,” said Bezzecchi, addressing Ogura.

When will Bezzecchi himself be back to 100 per cent? “As I’ve already said, my shoulder is healing quite well. A broken collarbone isn’t a very serious injury, but the fracture was severe, which is why the operation was quite complex,” explained the 27-year-old. “The problem is my left knee, which needs more time to recover. Fluid has built up in it, which is why it’s difficult to bend the knee. I’m doing everything I can to recover as quickly as possible. I’m in pain, but that’s just how it is.”
