Exclusive from Spielberg: First pictures of Senna Agius on the MotoGP KTM

Things have been far from brilliant for the young Australian Senna Agius of late. Following his unfortunate crash at the San Marino GP – the Intact rider, who had started from pole position, was taken out after just a few hundred metres – the Austrian GP also ended in major disappointment.

Senna Agius had crashed through his own fault in Q2 on Saturday, with his bike rolling over several times. As there is no warm-up session in Moto2, the functional test had to take place during the race after the bike had been rebuilt. The Kalex with the number did not run flawlessly; Agius was held up and was forced to retire early.

Instead of leaving straight away, the Moto2 rider – who has been signed by Tech3 for 2027 – stayed on in Spielberg. Together with his team, KTM Factory Racing had decided to involve the rider of the future in testing the 850cc KTM for 2027. What SPEEDWEEK.com had already suspected before the Austrian Grand Prix became a reality.

Senna Agius made his debut in the premier class on Monday following Pedro Acosta’s outstanding MotoGP triumph – because, unlike fellow newcomer Izan Guevara, Agius had not yet had the chance to experience the top-flight prototypes. It is worth noting that in 2025, even riders who failed to secure promotion were able to clock up MotoGP kilometres. Manuel Gonzalez tested for Trackhouse-Aprilia, whilst Celestino Vietti tested for VR46-Ducati.

Late in the morning, Agius took to the track in cool temperatures but on a dry surface. Whilst chief test rider Pol Espargaro went on the attack straight away – even crashing the 850 in Turn 2 at one point – Senna Agius’s debut passed without any obvious incidents. The number 81 rider, competing in MotoGP, took to the track both in the morning and in the afternoon. As this is a strictly confidential private test, no official lap times are available.

The test is more than just a welcome gift for the Australian. Having been in the Moto2 scene for four years, Agius knows Pirelli tyres inside out. Feedback from the Moto2 winner is likely to be valuable from the engineers’ perspective too. Furthermore, further tests with the rising star will only be possible during the official Valencia test after the season finale.
