Johann Zarco can train again – date of operation still to be confirmed

It has now been a good four weeks since the serious crash at the restart of the MotoGP race in Barcelona. Since then, Johann Zarco has been working hard on his comeback. The Frenchman sustained a number of injuries in the collision with Francesco Bagnaia when his left leg became trapped in the rear of the Italian’s factory Ducati. Since then, Cal Crutchlow has stood in for the LCR Honda rider at Mugello, Balaton Park and, most recently, Brno.

Zarco has now given his fans a positive update on the current state of his recovery via Instagram. Although the necessary knee operation is still pending, the 35-year-old is now able to train again.

Why Zarco has not yet been able to have surgery

“A month has now passed! I’m happy to be able to train again. I can’t deny that I’m slowly starting to miss my team, my bike and my world. As long as there’s a risk of infection, I can’t risk having the operation. But the time isn’t wasted, because the work I’m doing on my knee before the operation will also help me afterwards. That’s why I have to wait a little longer,” wrote Zarco. At the same time, he revealed that he is spending his time away from the racetrack with his family and improving his guitar skills.

Around two weeks ago, Zarco had already explained why the procedure hadn’t been carried out yet. Severe burns below the knee are delaying the operation, as the risk of infection is still too high at present. At the time, the Frenchman explained: “I still have to wait for the operation, as I have suffered very deep burns below the knee and cannot risk an infection occurring during the procedure.”

LCR boss Cecchinello is delighted with the positive developments

LCR team manager Lucio Cecchinello expressed his delight at his rider’s recent progress on the sidelines of the MotoGP weekend in Brno. Speaking to MotoGP.com, the Italian said: “I’m very pleased that Johann is able to train again. From a medical point of view, it’s a very positive sign that he’s been able to resume training.”
