When the new technical regulations come into force in MotoGP in 2027, a new era will dawn in the premier class of the World Motorcycle Championship. In future, the bikes’ engines will have a capacity of 850 cc instead of 1000 cc. The suspension height adjustment systems (devices) will be phased out and aerodynamics will be reduced. In addition, there will be a significant change regarding the most important supplier component: Pirelli will replace Michelin as the tyre manufacturer.

Aprilia, Ducati, KTM, Honda and Yamaha have been working on the new bikes for next year for some time now, and have already clocked up many kilometres of testing with them. Furthermore, the new MotoGP machines will be fitted with new brakes. Supplier Brembo is presenting the new GP4 brake caliper for MotoGP this week at EICMA 2026 in Milan. This is a solution developed by Brembo to meet the requirements of the teams and riders in the run-up to the new technical regulations.

Lighter yet stiffer

The new GP4 caliper reduces the weight by 75 grams per caliper, which equates to a total saving of 150 grams on the motorbike, whilst, according to Brembo, stiffness is increased by around 5 per cent compared with the current solution. “The new brake caliper body is the result of a comprehensive optimisation process in which every element has been redesigned with performance in mind,” stated Brembo’s press release.

Heat management is also said to have been optimised. “The geometry, the openings and the machining features have been designed to contribute to the overall efficiency of the braking system without the need for special cooling solutions,” Brembo promises. “The holes integrated into the brake caliper body serve a dual purpose: they reduce weight whilst promoting ventilation, and are also one of the distinctive features of the new GP4.”

Furthermore, the design has been revised compared with the previous model. “The central structure acts as a backbone, whilst diagonal lines and side openings give the brake caliper a technical identity that is recognisable at first glance,” says Brembo.

The new GP4 caliper retains the tried-and-tested hydraulic architecture, uses the same brake pads and discs, and is fully interchangeable in terms of fitting. The material and surface finish also remain unchanged.

“The new GP4 brake caliper highlights the continuous transfer of knowledge between research, development and motorsport – a wealth of technological expertise that constantly drives the further development of Brembo’s braking solutions,” emphasises Brembo.
