Surprise: RTL Deutschland secures MotoGP rights until the end of 2030

RTL Deutschland and MotoGP are continuing and further expanding their long-term partnership. The new rights agreement runs from 2027 up to and including 2030 and extends the existing partnership to include exclusive free-to-air TV rights for Germany. This means that, from the 2027 season onwards, RTL will broadcast selected MotoGP races exclusively on free-to-air television for the first time.

Sky Sport’s extensive live coverage remains unchanged. The pay-TV channel will continue to show all MotoGP Grand Prix races, Tissot Sprints, qualifying sessions and practice sessions live. The programme also includes all Moto2 and Moto3 sessions. The rights package is complemented by the Harley-Davidson Bagger World Cup, the Moto4 Northern Cup and the Red Bull Rookies Cup, in which a young German rider, Fynn Kratochwil, will be competing this year.

MotoGP returns to German free-to-air TV

In addition to the rights for Germany, RTL Deutschland has also extended its long-term pay-TV rights for Austria and Switzerland. “Over the past three years, our customers have been able to enjoy the thrill of MotoGP and Sky Sport’s live coverage,” explained Hans Gabbe, Senior Vice President of Sports Rights & Commercialisation at RTL Deutschland.

“We are delighted to continue and expand our partnership by offering MotoGP on an exclusive, long-term basis – and, for the first time, with selected races reaching an even wider audience on free-to-air television. Whether it’s MotoGP, Formula 1, the IndyCar Series or the WRC: we offer motorsport fans in Germany the world’s best racing series live.”

The MotoGP rights holder also sees the extension of the contract as an important signal for the German market. “The extension of our partnership with RTL Deutschland is another important step towards strengthening MotoGP’s presence in Germany,” said Alex Arroyo, Head of Media Rights at the MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group (formerly Dorna).

The contract covers all broadcasting platforms in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In addition, the rights package also includes the rights to public screenings via Sky Business, for example in bars and restaurants, hotels or other public venues.
