The Red Bull Rookies’ summer break comes to an end this coming weekend with the race held as part of the MotoGP round at Misano in Italy. As the Rookies’ summer break had already begun in mid-July following the races at the Sachsenring, Fynn Kratochwil packed his bags once again ahead of the Misano event and travelled to Valencia in Spain, where two rounds of the European Championship were on the programme. It was the perfect setting to get in the right frame of mind for the Misano outing. It wasn’t Kratochwil’s first outing for Team Snipers Xigak.

“A very positive first day on the track,” he said last Friday. “Finishing the day with a second and a third place is a really positive result and gives us a solid foundation on which to build. We worked hard together with the team throughout the day, focusing on improving my feel for the bike and making progress from session to session to find my own pace. We’ll continue to work hard on Saturday to take another step forward.”

Second place in Race 1

As promised, the young talent from Thuringia stepped up his game in qualifying. “We continued working in the same direction as yesterday, gaining a better understanding and making good progress throughout the day,” was his conclusion. “After qualifying directly for Q2, I finished third in that session, which put us in fifth on the grid for Sunday’s races. Now it’s time to focus on race day and give it our all in both races.”

No sooner said than done. Right in the first race, Kratochwil secured second place in the Momoven Moto4 European Cup. “A fantastic race day in Valencia, where we rounded off the weekend with two solid races,” was his analysis. “In Race 1, we finished second after a really hard-fought race. We battled at the front from start to finish and fought for victory right up until the very last laps. In Race 2, I was once again in the mix for a podium place, but a red flag brought the race to a premature end – one lap earlier than expected – and I finished fourth. All in all, it was a really positive weekend and a big step forward. A huge thank you to the whole team for their hard work throughout the weekend.”

Kratochwil won’t be resting on his laurels for long. He’s heading straight to Misano. There, it’s time to keep our fingers crossed again for the only German competitor in the Red Bull Rookies Cup. Immediately afterwards, the journey continues to Austria, where the final of the junior series will be held at the Red Bull Ring.
