‘Sterben tun die Anderen’: Klaus Klaffenböck invites you to the book launch

As previously reported, Klaus Klaffenböck has turned his hand to writing. The Upper Austrian from Peuerbach is the only Austrian sidecar world champion – in 2000, he won the world title alongside the late Christian Parzer. He later became the only non-British rider to win the Tourist Trophy three times on the notorious Isle of Man.

The book about his life and career is entitled *Sterben tun die Anderen* (Dying is for Others). An English version, entitled “Dying is for Others”, is now also in the works. The book’s co-author is Kurt Molzer, and the foreword is by the Tyrolean Formula 1 Grand Prix winner Gerhard Berger.

From 2025 onwards, Klaffi spent months delving into his numerous thrilling racing memories and, together with author Molzer, distilled them into a book. The autobiography *Sterben tun die Anderen – Story eines Champions* offers deep insights into the life of this trailblazer, for whom the denial of death became a survival strategy for many years.

Following his World Championship career in sidecars, Klaffenböck spent many years as the owner of a Honda team in the Superbike World Championship, securing a victory at Imola in 2006 with Alex Barros. He later returned to the Isle of Man as an active racing driver, where he enjoyed great success and subsequently remained active through his company.

It has now also been confirmed when and where the book will be presented. The event will take place on 16 October in Vienna city centre: the book launch will be held from 5 pm at the ‘Audi House of Progress’ at Kärntner Straße 26. Numerous prominent former motorsport personalities have confirmed their attendance at the event. Among those attending are the Swiss sidecar World Championship icon Rolf Biland, 125cc Grand Prix winner Gustl Auinger and motocross champion Heinz Kinigadner.

As things stand, dispatch of the Klaffenböck book will also begin on 16 October. Pre-orders can be placed directly via Klaus Klaffenböck’s website at a price of 34.90 euros (excluding postage). For Klaffi fans, there is also a limited edition of 200 copies, which can be personalised with a dedication on request. There is also an additional surprise.
