Polish League: AC Landshut to face Gdańsk in the speedway showdown

In the final of the Krajowa Liga Zuzlowa, Poland’s third-tier speedway league, the Trans MF Landshut Devils will face the leaders from the regular season in the battle for the league title this coming Sunday in Landshut and on 20 September in Gdańsk. The Gdańsk side have suffered just one defeat in twelve races and go into the clash as favourites against the Bavarians, who have recorded eight wins this season but have also suffered four defeats.

On their way to the final, Landshut first defeated the team from Gniezno away 47–43, before securing their place in the final with a 46–43 victory in the subsequent home race. This means they have exceeded their season’s target of reaching the play-offs. “Nothing is a must, everything is possible – have fun and enjoy the success,” says Landshut’s team manager Krzysztof Zielinski, setting out the motto for the final.

In the preliminary round, Landshut – who were recently without the injured Kim Nilsson and whose last race saw young Janek Konzack end up in hospital with a broken collarbone – lost twice to Gdańsk: In May, they suffered a 55–35 defeat, and in the return fixture, the Landshut side lost narrowly by 43–47 points.

“We’re delighted to be able to offer the fans the longest possible season this year and are eagerly looking forward to the final,” said club chairman Gerald Simbeck. “Naturally, we hope that large numbers of spectators will once again make their way to the Ellermühle to cheer on our league team.”

The race begins this coming Sunday, 13 September, at 5 pm. The stadium and box office open at 3 pm. As always, tickets are available on the club’s website and cost 22 euros in advance for standing areas (concessions 18 euros) or 27 euros (concessions 23 euros) in the stands. Children and young people up to the age of 17 pay just 0.50 euros in the standing area (all prices exclude booking fee).
