WINWARD Racing lodges appeal against Misano disqualification

Maro Engel and Lucas Auer were disqualified from the second GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup race at Misano. The wheel bearing on the Mercedes-AMG GT3 did not comply with homologation requirements. During additional technical inspections, it was found that ‘the sealing lips of the wheel bearing had been cut off on both sides’, a finding which was not disputed by representatives of WINWARD Racing.

On Saturday 29 August at 10.24 am, the Stewards received notification of Winward Racing’s intention to lodge an appeal against Decision No. 77 – the disqualification of the car.

The Stewards recognise the suspensive effect of the penalty imposed by Decision No. 77 in accordance with Article 12.3.3.a and b of the ISC, as the notice of the intended appeal was received within the time limit set by the Race Commissioners. As a result of the appeal, the result of the second GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup race remains provisional.
