Tragedy in Malaysia: 18-year-old racing driver dies

Malaysian motorcycling was overshadowed by tragedy on Saturday. Farres Putra Mohd Fadhill suffered a serious crash during the fifth round of the Malaysian Cub Prix Championship at the Gong Badak Motorsport Circuit in Terengganu. The 18-year-old succumbed to his injuries shortly afterwards.

The fatal accident occurred on the first lap of the final race in the CP150 class. According to police reports, three motorbikes were involved in the collision. Farres Putra was initially given medical treatment by emergency services at the track and then taken by ambulance to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu. There, he was pronounced dead.

A post-mortem has since confirmed that the CKJ Racing rider died from the multiple injuries he sustained in the accident.

Deep sadness following the fatal racing accident

The Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM) also reacted with great dismay to the death of the young racing driver. Officials praised the swift response of the medical team, the track marshals and the organisers. The exact circumstances of the accident are to be investigated in accordance with the applicable sporting and safety procedures.

Officials from the Asian Championship paid an emotional tribute to Farres Putra: “We are deeply saddened by the death of one of our drivers and a member of our racing family, Farres Putra Mohd Fadhil.”

“It is difficult to put into words the sense of loss we feel. He will always be remembered as part of our championship and for the memories he shared with us on and off the track.”

The organisers expressed their deepest condolences to his family, friends, team and all his loved ones: “May he rest in peace.”
