Moto4 Northern Cup Assen: Three German talents finish at the top

Amid changeable weather, the young riders of the Moto4 Northern Cup took to the track last weekend for the grand season finale at the TT Circuit Assen as part of the British Superbike Championship. Although Robin Siegert had already secured the title, he continued his winning streak with a victory in the first, rain-soaked race, whilst Anina Urlaß took the lead in Sunday’s sunny second race and, by a narrow margin, rounded off her season in style by clinching the runners-up spot.

Robin Siegert of the Kiefer Racing Team had already secured the 2026 Moto4 Northern Cup championship title by the penultimate round of the season at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben, but he showed no signs of letting up at the finale in the Netherlands either. The rider, supported by Motorsport Team Germany, secured second place in qualifying and triumphed in the first race with his eleventh consecutive victory, finishing 7.333 seconds ahead of Miro Masson from Belgium and Quinn de Joode from the Netherlands. “I was able to fight my way to the front with consistently good lap times, and that turned out to be my final victory in the Moto4 Northern Cup,” summarised Siegert.

In the second race, the 15-year-old was narrowly beaten and finished third, 0.229 seconds behind. “It was a bit crazier. There was a very large group battling it out. That was really good fun,” he continues. Finally, the champion expresses his gratitude: “I’m extremely grateful that it all went so well. A huge thank you to the whole Moto4 Northern Cup team – I’ve had two fantastic years and learnt so much. As I’ve said so many times before, a big thank you also to my Kiefer Racing team. It wouldn’t have been possible without all the people behind the scenes.”

Victory came with the sun

For Anina Urlaß, the weekend got off to a more difficult start. The speedy 16-year-old could only manage 8th place in qualifying and, starting from there, finished 10th in the first race. However, the rider, who is supported by Motorsport Team Germany, then showed her strength on a sunny Sunday and prevailed in a thrilling battle by 0.126 seconds against the pole-setter, Adam Vyskocil from the Czech Republic. This secured her second victory on the popular Grand Prix circuit, following her triumph at the season opener in Assen.

“It was a very mixed weekend,” said the Mass Sports by Jrp Motorsport driver. “I got off to a good start and felt confident in the rain. In qualifying, we misjudged things a bit because we thought it would dry out. That’s why my starting position wasn’t great, but it was still quite alright. In the first race, I just didn’t feel comfortable at all – I was skidding everywhere – so I only finished 10th, but I picked up some important points. On Sunday, I felt really comfortable. I was able to hold my own in the pack and secure the win – a brilliant end to this season, which has been full of ups and downs. We’ve still had a strong season, so I can head into the winter feeling content.”

Thias Wenzel, who was battling Urlaß for second place in the championship, initially qualified for fifth on the grid, but slipped on his front wheel in the wet whilst heading to the starting grid before the first race and consequently had to cope with a zero-point finish on Saturday. The 17-year-old explained apologetically: “In the first race, I unfortunately crashed early on due to a mistake of my own.” On Sunday, the Team Nsa rider finished in eighth place. “In the second race, the pace was there, but unfortunately I had gear-changing problems, which is why I only finished eighth in the end,” said Wenzel. The rider, who is supported by Motorsport Team Germany, nevertheless secured third place in the overall standings of the 2026 Moto4 Northern Cup.

Numerous talented German riders in action

Danny Hinkelmann, on the other hand, came away empty-handed from the final race weekend. The 15-year-old had initially only qualified in 25th place and, finishing 16th in the first race, narrowly missed out on the points. He was forced to retire early from the second race after just a few laps. Nevertheless, the Hinkelmann DH14 Racing rider finished the season in eighth place in the overall standings.

Jason Rudolph equalled his best race weekend of the season with a total of 22 points. The Motorsport Team Germany development driver first secured a front-row start with third place in qualifying and finished the first race in seventh place. In the second race, he battled in the leading group right until the end of the 14 laps and was ultimately pipped by just 0.086 seconds by Siegert in the fight for his first podium finish.

Smilla Göttlich managed to score just four points in total over the weekend. The Team Freudenberg – Paligo Racing rider had to fight her way up the field from 21st on the grid in both races. In the first race, she was forced to retire early due to a technical problem, but she managed to score points with a twelfth-place finish in the second race.

Although Louis Wolff had initially qualified for 15th on the grid on Saturday morning, he was unable to finish what had been a very strong first race due to a crash shortly before the finish. In the second race, he completed a valiant 14 laps and eventually crossed the line in 19th place.

Having finished seventh in qualifying, Tudor Dedea had high hopes for the final two races of the season. The 16-year-old even managed to finish twelfth in the first race, picking up four valuable championship points in the process. However, the second race came to an unfortunate early end for the Tudor Racing rider following a crash on lap four. Dedea finished the season in 21st place overall.

Meanwhile, Ole Säuberlich made his first guest appearance in the Moto4 Northern Cup at Assen. The 14-year-old initially finished 22nd in his first qualifying session and even secured his first point with a 15th-place finish in the first race. In the second race, he crossed the line in 18th place.
