Moto4 Oschersleben: German talent crowned champion ahead of schedule

The penultimate round of the 2026 Moto4 Northern Cup season took place last weekend at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben, with Robin Siegert – a ten-time consecutive winner – crowned the new champion. The Czech rider Roman Durdis secured two second-place finishes, whilst the Frenchman Swan Emprin and the Czech rider Adam Vyskocil shared the final spot on the podium.

The championship title – at last

Although he started the first race from sixth on the grid, Robin Siegert was already battling for the lead from the third lap onwards and was unstoppable from the midway point of the race. With his victory, the Kiefer Racing rider secured the 2026 Moto4 Northern Cup title early on Saturday. In the second race, he was locked in a fierce battle with his Czech rivals and only clinched his tenth consecutive victory at the finish line in a photo finish by a margin of just 0.008 seconds.

“I’ve finally clinched the championship title, right in the first race,” said the 15-year-old jubilantly. “It was a bit tricky on the track at the start; we had a few problems getting up to speed straight away. It took me a few laps to really get into my stride. But I was always able to improve steadily,” added the Motorsport Team Germany development driver, before continuing: “In the first race, I was able to drive very well according to plan. That was one of my best races. I attacked at the right moment and won convincingly. The championship title and the whole spectacle were truly priceless experiences.” In Qualifying 2, I celebrated my third pole position of the year. This time, it was a bit different racing in the big group, and in the end, with a bit of luck, I managed to hold my own – ten wins. We’re absolutely delighted. A big thank you to everyone who was there and to my whole team!”

Back on track

For Anina Urlaß, the sixth race weekend didn’t go to plan. Despite a good start on Friday, she crashed twice during free practice and had to regain her confidence on Saturday. The 16-year-old initially qualified in 17th place but managed to fight her way up to ninth in the first race. On Sunday, she qualified in second place on the grid but finished the race in seventh; nevertheless, she remained in second place in the overall standings ahead of the grand finale.

“Friday got off to a good start. I felt comfortable straight away, but then I pushed a bit too hard and that’s when the problems started,” reflects the driver, who is supported by Motorsport Team Germany. “In the first race I had problems with the brakes, and in the second race I can’t really say what was missing.” Nevertheless, the Mass Sports Racing by Jrp Motorsport driver is looking forward positively to the season finale.

Highs and lows

Danny Hinkelmann could not manage better than 15th place in Saturday’s qualifying, but managed to fight his way up to 7th in the 16-lap race, once again securing a solid points finish. On Sunday, the 15-year-old Hinkelmann, a Dh14 Racing driver, improved on his qualifying performance and started from 7th place. From there, however, he dropped back slightly and then battled behind the top 10, eventually finishing in 13th place. “Both races didn’t go as we’d hoped due to problems and poor starts. So we can only look ahead,” Hinkelmann summed up.

Thias Wenzel experienced a weekend full of ups and downs. The driver, supported by Motorsport Team Germany, secured his first pole position of the 2026 season on Saturday. In the race, he battled for a podium place amongst the leading group for a long time, but was unfortunately knocked out by a rival on the final lap and thus initially came away empty-handed. “In the first race, things weren’t actually going too badly. We had some good overtaking manoeuvres, but unfortunately I was knocked off the track whilst in second place and was therefore unable to finish the race,” said the Team Nsa driver.

On Sunday, the 17-year-old started from eighth on the grid and, after a solid race, finished in sixth place, which allowed him to defend his third place in the overall standings for the time being. “In the second race, I unfortunately didn’t stand a chance on the straight and had to make up the gap by braking late and pushing hard through the corners to catch up with the group. That made overtaking much more difficult. In the end, I crossed the finish line in sixth place,” he explained.

Jason Rudolph initially caught everyone’s attention with second place in Saturday’s qualifying. However, the driver, who is sponsored by Motorsport Team Germany, dropped back to 16th place midway through the first race, but managed to fight his way back to 11th place and secure five championship points. The 16-year-old from Racingteam Rudolph then finished 15th in Sunday’s qualifying and held onto his starting position to finish the 16-lap race.

Next stop: BSB Assen

Although he only qualified in 21st place on Saturday, Tudor Dedea drove a strong first race and secured his second-best result in the Moto4 Northern Cup with a 10th-place finish. On Sunday, he qualified in 18th place and made up one position over the course of 16 laps.

Saturday did not go to plan for Smilla Göttlich. After the rider, who is supported by Motorsport Team Germany, qualified in 18th place, she was initially unable to make any further progress and retired on lap 10 due to technical difficulties. Things went much better for the 15-year-old in Sunday’s qualifying session. She secured 10th on the grid and picked up a further four championship points with a 12th-place finish in the race.

Louis Wolff had a run of bad luck on Saturday, starting from 20th on the grid and crashing as early as the fourth lap. However, the 18-year-old gained further experience on Sunday in his debut season at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben, completing the full 16-lap race. However, finishing 19th, the Kiefer Racing rider went home without any points.

Although the Moto4 Northern Cup title has already been decided, there are still numerous outcomes to be decided at the finale. For Anina Urlaß and Thias Wenzel, the seventh and final round in 2026 – taking place from 18 to 20 September 2026 alongside the British Superbike Championship (BSB) in Assen, the Netherlands – will see them battle for the top three places in the overall standings.
