After horrific crash: Kelvin van der Linde will not be on the starting grid on Sunday

Kelvin van der Linde was involved, through no fault of his own, in the horrific crash during the first DTM race at the Norisring. After Maximilian Paul lost control on a patch of oil left by Timo Glock, crashed into the barrier and skidded into the first corner with no braking power, the Lamborghini works driver struck the BMW star on the driver’s door. The impact severely damaged the chassis of the BMW M4 GT3.

Kelvin van der Linde was taken to hospital for a thorough examination following the collision, but it transpired that the two-time ADAC GT Masters champion had escaped unharmed.

The South African’s damaged BMW M4 GT3 cannot be repaired on site, meaning the former runner-up will be unable to start the second race, as the Oschersleben-based team announced on Saturday evening.

“Kelvin had been driving a solid race up until the mandatory pit stop and was making his way through the early stages of the race. After the stop, however, he was hit hard by another car through no fault of his own. The impact looked severe — but the most important thing is that Kelvin is fine. The race ended prematurely for both cars with a DNF. Due to the damage, Kelvin’s car will not be used again this weekend, and Kelvin will not be starting tomorrow,” said the Schubert Motorsport team in a statement on Instagram.
