Thomas Preining is DTM champion for the second time! A third-place finish in the second DTM race at the Hockenheimring was enough for the Austrian to clinch the title. This is Preining’s second title in Germany’s best-known racing series, having already won the championship in 2023. The Austrian has thus capped off a spectacular comeback in the championship during the second half of the season. Preining also won the 24 Hours of Spa, the world’s biggest GT race, back in June.

The race was won by his title rival Maro Engel in the WINWARD Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3.

Ricardo Feller finished second in the second Manthey Porsche, after Preining let him past on the final lap. He was 3.058 seconds behind the winning Mercedes-AMG.

During the braking phase for the second corner, Thierry Vermeulen made heavy contact with the rear of Jules Gounon’s car, causing the WINWARD Racing driver to then collide with Matteo Cairoli as well. This brought the Mercedes-AMG works driver’s race to an end.
