Following penalty against Marco Mapelli – Ben Dörr celebrates maiden victory

Marco Mapelli loses the win in the first DTM race at the Lausitzring. The stewards penalised Mapelli for exceeding the speed limit under a full course yellow. The stewards subsequently imposed a 15-second time penalty on the Italian ABT Sportsline driver, meaning Mapelli loses the win. The Italian is therefore classified in second place.

Upon closer examination of the data by the stewards, they determined that the Lamborghini works driver had exceeded the maximum permitted speed of 80 km/h under Full Course Yellow by driving at 83 km/h and was therefore retrospectively given three penalty laps, resulting in the Italian being retrospectively handed a 15-secondtime penalty.

Ben Dörr is therefore declared the winner! For the McLaren junior from the Dörr Motorsport team, this is his first DTM victory! Dörr has thus cemented his place among the DTM frontrunners.

Ricardo Feller also received a 15-second time penalty following the race for exceeding the speed limit under Full Course Yellow. However, as he had a lead of more than 20 seconds over Nicki Thiim at the end of the race, the Swiss driver retains third place. Maximilian Paul and Maro Engel were also retrospectively handed 15-second time penalties.

Jules Gounon and Tom Kalender, on the other hand, were cleared of any charges, as a closer investigation revealed that they had not exceeded the 89 km/h limit.
