A sensational performance by Marco Mapelli! Starting from 16th on the grid, the Italian drove to victory in the first DTM race at the Lausitzring. Mapelli has thus secured the first global race win for the new Lamborghini Temerario GT3. However, it remains unclear whether the ABT driver will retain this victory, as the stewards are investigating Mapelli over a possible speeding offence during a full-course yellow. Mapelli benefited from a pit stop during the neutralisation phase, which saw him move to the front of the field.

Second place went to Ben Dörr in the Dörr Motorsport McLaren, who secured his second podium finish of the DTM season. At the end of the race, Dörr was 1.864 seconds behind the Lamborghini driver.

Ricardo Feller, in the Manthey Porsche, completed the podium in a crazy race at the Lausitzring.

Twenty minutes before the start of the race, heavy rain set in around the Lausitzring. This delayed the start of the race by five minutes. The DTM drivers were then allowed to complete two formation laps to get used to the new conditions. With temperatures around 35 degrees, the track dried out quickly, meaning that some drivers, including Marco Wittmann, started the race back on slicks.

Tom Kalender spun out at the first corner; the youngster was lucky not to have been hit in his Landgraf Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT3.

Bastian Buus ended up in the gravel trap at the seventh corner on the opening lap. The safety car was deployed to recover the Land-Motorsport Porsche. The young Dane lost control of the red Porsche from the Land team in the long, sweeping corner. Due to the safety car period, the race was extended by two laps.

On the track, which was drying out more and more, the drivers who had started the race on slicks had a significant advantage over those on wet tyres by the end of the first stint. Polesetter Nicki Thiim stormed back to the front after dropping as far as 13th place at the start on the damp track.

During the pit stop phase, Timo Glock came to a halt at the exit of Turn 8 with technical problems on his Dörr Motorsport McLaren 720S GT3. A Full Course Yellow was declared to recover the car.

At the restart, championship leader Maro Engel slid into the gravel trap at Turn 8 and fell far back in his WINWARD Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3.

Twelve minutes before the end of the race, race director Sven Stoppe announced that several cars were under investigation for speeding during the Full Course Yellow. These included front-runner Marco Mapelli, Ricardo Feller in third place and championship leader Maro Engel. Also included were local hero Maximilian Paul, Tom Kalender and Jules Gounon. This will be investigated in more detail by the stewards after the race.
