Lamborghini team boss Gottfried Grasser reacts to disqualification

Just under three weeks after his victory in the second DTM race at Oschersleben, Mirko Bortolotti was disqualified from the race. Following an extensive investigation, the stewards decided on Thursday at the Nürburgring that the Lamborghini Temerario GT3 did not comply with Article 5.1 of the sporting regulations.

During a routine inspection of a total of four cars, it was found that the seized wheel bearing from Mirko Bortolotti’s car did not comply with DTM GT3 homologation or a reference part.

The team announced that it would appeal against the decision. The result remains provisional pending the appeal court’s ruling.

In a statement to Motorsport-Total, Gottfried Grasser has now commented on the decision: “Article 5 of the DTM, which led to the disqualification, states that parts may be compared with the manufacturer’s original parts. That is the general wording regarding parts for technical inspection.”

The team principal continues: “However, we believe that this does not apply to the wheel bearing. I refer to Article 2, which states that the bulletins currently available for download in the Download Centre are valid. There, Clarification 04 explicitly states that wheel bearings are exempt. As this Clarification has never been revoked or removed from the download centre, we believe that wheel bearings are exempt in the DTM. And that is why we have lodged an appeal. The appeals tribunal will have to decide what is correct.”
